Biquex

A proposal for a public bike system for Mar del Plata, Argentina; designed to reduce congestion and enhance exploration with a user-friendly, playful app.
The Challenge
Mar del Plata, a major tourist destination in Argentina, faces significant transportation challenges, especially during peak tourist seasons. Visitors often arrive by car, overwhelming the city's limited infrastructure. Bicycles are a popular alternative, with many tourists opting to rent them. Recognizing this, I proposed Biquex, a bespoke public bike system aiming to reduce car usage.

The primary challenge was to design a user-friendly app for Biquex that would serve tourists. Given Mar del Plata's status as a city with rich cultural and natural attractions, the app needed to highlight these unique features. Unlike other coastal destinations, Mar del Plata offers a blend of urban and natural experiences, from historic theaters to expansive forests.
Design Approach
The visual identity of Biquex is designed to be friendly and engaging, catering to users who may only interact with the app for a few months. The playful elements and gamification tools are intended to make the experience enjoyable and to encourage frequent use.
Responsiveness and Technical Execution
To ensure a consistent user experience across various devices, the app was designed with responsiveness in mind. Using Figma, I implemented Auto Layout to manage the layout and spacing dynamically. This approach allowed for efficient adjustments and ensured that the design remained cohesive across different screen sizes. Auto Layout in Figma was crucial for maintaining alignment and spacing, which are essential for a polished and professional look.
Biquex was conceived to tackle the congestion problem in Mar del Plata, particularly during peak tourist seasons. Recognizing the strain on the city's infrastructure, the project proposed an eco-friendly solution that aligns with the growing demand for sustainable transportation options. This dual focus on solving a practical issue and promoting environmental responsibility guided the entire design process.

From the identification of this opportunity, the design was developed with a clear audience in mind: tourists seeking an efficient and enjoyable way to navigate the city. This understanding shaped the app's visual identity and engagement mechanics, ensuring that the design was not only functional but also appealing to its users. The playful and intuitive interface, combined with gamification elements, was crafted to encourage regular use and enhance the overall experience.

By addressing a real-world problem and creating value for its users, Biquex exemplifies how thoughtful design can transform a simple idea into a impactful solution. This project highlights my ability to identify opportunities, understand user needs, and translate them into a cohesive and engaging product.
